These mugs are thrown on the wheel then altered to create a curve in the mug body behind the handle. For me, this balances out the extra visual weight of the handle, and creates lovely curvy lines inside. I call this glaze Hemlock not because it’s green like a hemlock tree, but because it reminds me of the special quality of light in hemlock groves at dawn and dusk. It’s blueish, greenish, blackish—a feeling of a color more than a color itself.
